Mt Katahdin

Join us in another opportunity to scale what the Penobscot Indians referred to as the “Greatest Mountain” - Katahdin.  Located in Baxter State Park in North Central Maine, Katahdin is the tallest peak in that state, and the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail.  We will camp at Roaring Brook Campground on Thursday night and then Chimney Pond on Friday and Saturday night. Space is limited to 12 participants. This is a rugged hike. Please asses your abilitieis carefully when signing up. If in doubt please talk with Mr Brenckle ahead of time. The trip will run from July 5th through the 8th.

Zoar Whitewater Rafting

In May Troop 1 will go whitewater rafting at Zoar Gap with Zoar Outdoor in Charlemont, MA.  This is a beginner rafting trip, mostly Class II rapids with one Class III rapid.  It is a guided rafting trip. We will be camping at Zoar Campgrounds.

  • Scouts must have passed the BSA Swimmers test to attend this trip unaccompanied by a parent.  This would include all of our Scouts 1st Class and above, plus all of those who passed the swim test at summer camp.
  • Scouts who have not passed the BSA swim test will be required to have a parent attest that they can swim and attend the trip with their parent.

We have room for 20 participants.

Gettysburg

The troop is heading to two places this April. The first trip, should you so choose, is headed to Gettysburg National Park. This is intended as a family trip. We'll be traveling to to Gettysburg on Thusrsday April 19, returning that Sunday and staying at the Artillery Ridge Campground. Battle ground tours and musuems will be on the agenda.

March 16-18 Campout and Hike

On March 16 - 18 we will be returning to JN Webster Norcross Scout Reservation. We will also be renewing the 6 Peaks of New England hiking series. Granted, Jerimoth Hill isn't much of a climb or overly strenous hike, but it is the highest point in Rhode Island. We'll head over to the trail head for the short hike and be back in time for lunch and an afternoon of scout skills. It will be a great first campout for our new scouts.

JN Webster Camping Trip

Troop 1 is heading down to JN Webster Scout Reservation for a relaxing fall camping trip. After the busy start to the Scouting year, here is a chance to kick back, unwind and just have some fun. Bring your cards, games, footballs of either type, frisbes or just a funny story to share around the camping TV.

Acadia National Park

Troop 1 is headed back to Acadia National Park this October. We'll be climbing, hiking and stargazing. We are headed there over the Columbus day weekend. Scouts have a choice of hiking or climbing. The troop has visited the park in the past and the event is back by popular demand.
